Tomoka State Park was the site of the Scenic Highway Celebration
on Saturday, October 6.
Festivities
included an official ceremony and ribbon cutting with local
government officials and representatives from FDOT, kayak rentals,
living history volunteers,
information booths manned by
environmental organizations, a bird-banding demonstration, boat
tours of the Tomoka Basin and trolley tours of the Ormond Scenic
Loop & Trail and a free picnic lunch. Photo provided by

October 6 arrived at the end of a rainy,
muggy week, and Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail members were worried about
keeping dry at the Celebration scheduled to begin at
9:00 a.m. Fortune smiled upon the community and
the overcast sky kept the sun from becoming too hot but did not
bring rain. With assistance from the City of Ormond Beach and
Boy Scout Troop 404, tents were erected to shade the volunteers from
local environmental groups who manned information tables. An
official stage was set in the pavilion close to the boat ramp and
general store.
Over 450 people from the community stopped by during the hours of
the Celebration. Three local musicians volunteered their time
to entertain guest at the celebration and Ormond Scenic Loop and
Trail members and sponsors provided a free picnic lunch which was
prepared by the Park concessionaire. |
